Secret Santa

Secret Santa

Today Room I had another class celebration to celebrate the end of the school year and to recognise Xmas!

Each child had to buy a gift for a child in the classroom. The children pulled out names from a bucket to decide who they would be buying for.

The gifts were wonderful and everyone loved what their secret santa brought them!

Christmas Celebration in Room I

Incredible Room I’s Christmas Celebration

Within Incredible Room I we have spent some time today decorating Christmas tree biscuits, which Miss Kyle made.

We used red and green icing, pebbles and frosting tubes to decorate our trees to make them look like a decorated Christmas tree.  They tasted delicious and everyone enjoyed decorating and most importantly EATING the biscuits!

Here are some photos from the celebration…

School X Country

School X Country

On Friday, the Middle and Senior Teams headed to Victoria Park for the School X Country. It was a windy, but warm day, down at the park with nerves running high in all children (and in some parents/ teachers).
I was SO PROUD of ALL the CHILDREN in Incredible Room I who completed the course and RAN THE ENTIRE WAY (which was every child)!
It made me smile from ear to ear to see children finishing and being proud of their race!

Another Team Challenge!

Another Team Challenge…

The children were put into two groups.
Using a long piece of string, each group had to thread it through each member’s clothes. They had to problem solve together to find out where would be the best place to thread the string through. They came up with some creative ideas (as you can see in the pictures below).

After they successfully threaded the string through, the groups then had their piece of string cut in half. They repeated the process again. One group managed to complete it with a whole string, while the other one team’s string broke. Finally we cut the piece of string in half again and repeated the challenge again. Both teams did well to get it through most of the children, but in the end both teams didn’t manage to complete the challenge.

The children got up very close and personal and had a lot of fun in the process!

Team Challenges

In Incredible Room I we have been completing team challenges. These activities are designed to challenge the children’s thinking, allow the children to work together to solve problems. We have been completing some challenging, but fun tasks. One of these challenges was the *Tower Challenge*.In groups of 4 the children had to make a tower ONLY out of:-Newspaper-a strip of long masking tape They had 30 minutes to create the 1 metre tower. It had to support a tennis ball, and stand upright. Here are some photos of our tower challenge. The winning team was Patrick, James H, Lucas and Gurleen. Congratulations guys! Miss K

More Photos From Enviro Day!

Enviro Day

Term Three

Today was a BERY busy, but fun day, to celebrate M.S.S’s Enviro day for Term Three. It was so much fun and filled with lots of interesting activities and tasks.

The theme and message behind the day was to celebrate ‘Conservation week’ within our schooling community and classrooms. The theme for Conservation week is ‘What’s your Whanau doing?’ To promote this message during the day Incredible Room I partook in a range of activities that involved/ promoted these messages.

In the morning Incredible Room I focused celebrating and recognising Conservation week by looking at a video on bugs and finding out information about what these tiny ‘yucky’ things do for the environment and why they are important. We discussed what would happen in the world without them and the importance of their role in waste management. In groups the children selected bugs and did sketches on them and wrote around their images information on what the bug does, why they selected it and also what they can do to care for this bug and to protect it for our future.

After morning tea it was time to get dirty! The entire class got in the garden and worked hard tidying up our beautiful garden in front of the dental clinic.

We created healthy sandwiches, were we all helped to chop, slice and dice the vegetables for our buns! The children really appreciate how long parents work to create meals and understand the hard work that goes into preparing a lunch or meal for others- as they had to work hard today. We also created fruit kebabs at the end with some fruit. Every child had a role and was able to help create our smorgasbord of fruit and veges!

In the afternoon we got to go and see the bird aviary in the Nursery. Room N did a FANTASTIC job at talking and sharing new information with us about the different birds that are found in our aviary!

Lastly for the day we got to plant two trees, one native and one non native, to go along the side of our field. All the children got to contribute in the planting of these trees. It was great to know this was another way we were giving back and contributing to conservation within our community. Mrs Cowan and Mr Barratt did a great job with this and we know the entire tree planting and even Enviro Day would not be managed or so successful without them!
