LEGO Rugby World Cup

ENVIRO DAY

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Room I is celebrating Manchester Street School Enviro Action Day, for Term 3, on Monday the 5th of September.

The theme for Enviro Action Day this term is Apples.
As you all know the children had the opportunity to order an apple tree of their choice, by giving a gold coin donation, earlier this term. The children will receive these trees on Enviro Day and all the class activities will be focused on apples.

One of the activities will be peeling, cutting and stewing apples. To do this I would love if every child could bring the following items:

-1 peeler
-A topping of their choice to go with the stewed apples.
Some ideas for toppings could be: sultanas, raisins, yogurt, cream, ice-cream etc.

Every child will receive an apple on Enviro Day, which we will use for the stewing (so no apples are needed).

I would really appreciate if ANY parents/caregivers could bring in a slow cooker for Incredible I to use, to stew our apples in, as I only have one at the moment, and will need more than one to cook 30 apples. These can be dropped to me anytime before Monday, or even Monday morning.

It would be wonderful if ANY parent/caregiver could pop in to help sometime during the morning. I need help with gardening and having some parents working with small groups to peel and slice apples, using peelers and knives. Please get back to me by Friday afternoon if you are able to support me on the Monday.

Thank you,

Miss Alicia Kyle.

Rugby Fun!

Incredible Room I had the BEST time visiting The Rugby Museum, in Palmerston North, Te Manawa.

We had a chance to look around at all of the old jerseys and the awards the All Blacks and other great teams have won over the years. I know we all learnt so much from the tour we were given, and I think Parents and teachers were more interested in asking questions to the guide than the children :).

Did you know: The first rugby ball was made out of a pigs bladder (blown up). They had to be extremely careful with the ball, as it could easily pop (that is why they put a rubber/leather case over it). It is also another reason for why the rugby ball is not a circle. The pigs bladder was not a perfect circle, and harder to catch, which is why the rugby ball has the unusal shape.

Did you know: The first ever New Zealand Rugby jersey was blue, made off wool ,and had a gold fern hand sewn onto it (all of the jerseys were not the same blue either they had to bring their own).

We also had the chance to have a go on some equipment they had in the museum. We had a go at sprinting, kicking, tackling, scrumming and jumping in a line out. It was so much fun for the children AND PARENTS!

Room I had a great day and learnt so much :)

Room I and Room D's buddy assembly!

Room I and D's buddy assembly was a success! As many of the parents were able to see.

It was alot of fun and a great time for the two classes to show off the art they had completed, and the song they had learnt together (everyone enjoyed the animals!).

For those families that could not make the assembly- here is the photostory that was displayed in the assembly of Room I and Room D's experiences throughout the year. Some are buddy activities, others are own class experiences.

Enjoy...

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great break for two whole AMAZING weeks! (I know I did!)

I am looking forward to a busy, but productive term with a focus on the Rugby World Cup and focusing on speeches with theme of "the Greatest Gift".

I just wanted to remind children and parents about the homework expectations for the term.
The children are to complete:
-a homework task sheet (set every week)
- spelling
-maths sheet
-practise their multiplication tables

Remember Incredible I- If you complete your homework throughout the whole term (every week) you are able to choose/select a delicious treat for myself, Miss K, to bake. (Man those chocolate cupcakes I made last term were amazing!)

Parents if you have any questions or problems PLEASE come and see me whenever :). I love talking with you about the childrens successes or areas they need to work on.

Thanks so much,

Miss K

Rugby Museum Trip

CHANGE OF DATE

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have been forced to postpone our trip to the Rugby Museum to
THURSDAY 18TH AUGUST (Week 3).

We apologise for this, however the Rugby Museum will not now be fully operational on the original date booked.  We hope that if you have offered transport you will still be able to assist us – please let your class teacher know.  If you are NOW able to provide transport please fill in the form below and send back to school.  The same times as before will apply.  If you have already returned the permission slip there is no need to do so again unless the change of date is a problem.  Thank you.
