Class Enviro Day

Our class Enviro Day, for Term 3, was very successful. As a class, we planted our class tree, a Pohutukawa tree, went for a walk on our school adopted walkway, along the Uenuku stream, and we learnt about the facilities we have in the school grounds, and what we need to do ensure these facilities are used to their maximal potential.
The children worked well individually, in groups, and alongside Mrs Cowan. They learnt a lot about how to look after the school and other facilities that they have connections with.

Here are some of the photos of our walk along the Uenuku Stream.

Our Pohutukawa Tree

Incredible Room I have now adopted, and will care for, our very own Pohutukawa tree. It is the first of its kind within Manchester Street School and we feel very lucky to be the class that gets to have this unique tree to care for. It will be such a beautiful tree, once it flowers.
Here are some photos that show our whole class planting the tree. We all got involved in the process.

Now we have planted our tree we will learn about how to look after it better, throughout the rest of the year, and find out about the special messages and Maori traditions that connect to the Pohutukawa tree.

Making Pikelets!

Incredible Room I have been learning all about Measurement. We have been learning about measuring distance, capacity and converting mls to cups, over the last 2 weeks.

It has been a lot of fun. For a class celebration we made pikelets.

We had to follow the recipe correctly and use cup measurements e.g. ¼, ½ and whole cups and use teaspoon and tablespoon measurements. We all had a turn at adding ingredients into the bowl, making a pikelet, and flipping it.
It was a lot of fun and as the children really enjoyed themselves!

One quote from the children was “Who knew Measuring could be so delicious!”

Here are some of the steps we followed…

Gabi's Pyramid

This a pyramid built by Gabi for the extension group. It shows the inside and outside of the pyramid and the Nile river. The mummy’s sarcophagus is on the table in the middle of the inside. The outside is painted to blend into the desert. The soft sand is mimicked by rough sandpaper! The trees along the Nile’s side are to show that along the river the soil is fertile and great conditions for fruit trees e.g. Dates, and Papaya.

Learning Conferences

Wow what a lovely two days of sharing Incredible Room I's Learning Portfolios with parents :)

It was great to see the children being so confident and proud of the work they had completed. I always find it such a rewarding and worthwhile time of discussing and sharing the success of the students throughout the year so far.

I know that there are so many wonderful things left to complete and do as a class in Term 3. I am excited to work with the students to create an amazing production item, to have a Team Breakfast celebration, and also to continue to see all the children grow academically, emotionally and socially as they mature in this busy term.

Remember you are always welcome, parents, to come and see me if there are ANY issues or positives you would like to discuss J
