Winter Warmers

Winter Warmers Over term 2 and 3 we have been busy completing many activities within our Winter Warmers Booklets. We have been reading many stories and completing activities about each story and about our class novel. Here are some of the activities we have been completing and the REWARDS we got for completing 5! Cannot wait to see what we get for 10!

Zero Waste Throughout this week Incredible Room I have been lucky enough to have Mrs Clarke in from the Zero Waste programme to teach us about composting. We have been learning about the different ingredients we NEED to put into the compost for it to be successful. We now know we need carbon (dry) ingredients and we need nitrogen (wet) ingredients. We have been learning facts about different types of worms and what they need to survive in their habitats (compost bins and worm farms). We have had a lot of fun searching through the contents of a worm farm this afternoon hunting for tiger worms, slatters, snails and even egg sacks! Here are some photos from our lessons…

For measurement the children in Incredible Room I have been focusing on volumes, capacity and a range of units. For a celebration and a ‘practical’ use of the unit Room I made Pikelets!! As a whole class we had to follow a set of instructions which involved reading the recipe word by word and making sure we had all the ingredients that were mentioned. All children had a go in helping to make the pikelets and the children used all measuring tools correctly. The children had to think on their feet too as we doubled the recipe! They used their doubling skills to help them create some YUMMY snacks! Making pikelets was LOTS and LOTS of fun! (Especially eating them).

CHARACTER DAY!!!

Today Incredible Room I and the rest of MSS had Character Dress Up Day. My favourite character was Ben, the Granny, but there were lots of other good characters! I think Miss Kyle put a lot of effort into her costume, BUT DID NOT LIKE THE WITCH HAIR she said IT felT weird!!! By James H :)

Book Week Tasks

Over the last two weeks we have been focusing on celebrating Book Week throughout MSS! We have been learning so much about the importance of Books and Reading.
Everyday we have D.E.A.R time which means "Drop Everything And Read". We love this time in the class and Miss Kyle even reads!

We read the picture book" It's a Book". As a class we discussed why reading books is important and what we learn and love about reading from books. We also, in pairs, did book reviews about the text to respond and evaluate what we enjoyed about reading it.

Throughout our Book Week we also completed a range of activities in reading. Above are some examples of these and a range of texts were used.

Its been a great two weeks and we cannot wait until Friday for Character Book Day Dress up!!! What will you dress as?????

Book Weeks! Over the next two weeks we are celebrating the importance of reading books within our school. We are focusing on reading a range of different books, doing different reading activities and even running competitions and dress up days next week! We were lucky enough THIS week to have two wonderful people in our community to come in and read to us. We had Mr Wheeler, our school principal, and Kevin from the Feilding Police force. Mr Wheeler read a book all about dark clouds, which shared a message of looking after the environment and to be more aware of what smoke and substances we let out into the atmosphere. Kevin read two picture books, one about a Police Horse, and had time to share and answer questions about his job and about the Police force in New Zealand. Incredible Room I loved having these special guests in to read and appreciated the time they gave up to come along and talk with us!
