Speed Stackers!

In Incredible I we have been lucky to have been given a set of speed stackers for our class to have and use over the year.
Here is an AMAZING video that gives you a preview of what it is all about.
Room I is working on getting as fast as we can!

Mighty Machines unit!

In INCREDIBLE I we have been looking into some simple machines that we use in everyday life to make things easier for us to do.
There are 6 types of simple machines:

- Levers

-Pulleys

-Gears

-Inclined Plane

-Wedge

-The Wheel and Axle

We have been watching YouTube clips on these topics and they have been very interesting to watch.
I thought it would be a good idea to share with parents and others the great and informative sites we have accessed, so they can understand a little bit of what learning has been occurring in Incredible I.

Making Pikletes!

In Incredible Room I we have been studying explanation writing.
Today, the 17th of May, we were able to make pikletes by following a recipe and paying close attention to the steps involved.

First we had to get one cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt and sift it into the bowl.

Then we needed to combine 1/4 cup of sugar and an egg.

We then mixed the mixture until the egg and sugar where mixed in with the rest of the ingredients.
We then added 3/4 of milk.

We had to make sure it was well mixed.

We then heated up our frying pan, turning it on at the wall. We had to make sure the temperature was not too high otherwise our pikletes would have burnt.

We then put butter on the pan, to ensure the pikletes didnt stick.

We added the mixture. Putting small spoonfuls onto the pan.

When the mixture was bubbling, it was time to flip.

TA DA! time to eat our delicious pikletes :).

We had alot of fun managed to finish all of them, no surprises there!

Tomorrow we will write an explanation of how to create a batch of pikletes and inform the reader why they need to follow the instructions and clearly write it out so someone can create a delicious batch themselves :).

We had so much fun as a class and were learning at the same time! Good on you Incredible Room I!

RECIPES NEEDED!

Hi,

Just a friendly reminder to parents about the recipe book. Allanah Burney is doing a wonderful job with preparing the next recipe book, but the problem is she has not collected enough recipes. This recipe book is expected to be a VERY successful fundraiser for the school, and the money will be put into finishing the senior and middle school playground.

PLEASE put forward recipes by tomorrow night! Bring them into the class for me to collect or give them to Magot Mackie.

We really would appreciate your help in this area :).

Geometry

On Tuesday, Week one, Term 2, Incredible I had some time to experiment with creating their very own cubes. We talked about the difference between a 2D shape and a 3D shape.
3D shapes have certain attributes about them. These are faces, vertices and edges.
The class got into groups and the children had to create a cube. We quickly discovered that a cube could not just be created with any amount of blocks. We discovered that EVERY side had to be the same.
Here are some of the designs that were created:

Incredible I learnt that a cube always has the same attributes. The number of faces, vertices and edges are always the same. It is what makes up a cube.
We learnt alot and had a fun lesson.

It is very exciting to have you back and I am glad that this term is not so busy and unpredictable, so alot of focused learning can occur.
